The 12th International Sclerotinia Workshop

Monterey, California, USA
12-16 June 2005

The 12th International Sclerotinia Workshop will bring together persons interested in basic and applied plant pathology, mycology, agriculture, and all other aspects of the Sclerotinia fungus. Researchers, students, extension personnel, industry members, and others are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The workshop will consist of oral and poster presentations as well as discussion sessions covering all aspects of Sclerotinia, including the following: biology, ecology, epidemiology, taxonomy and genetics, molecular engineering, disease modeling and forecasting, pathology, physiology, biochemistry, disease management, fungicides, biological control, worldwide impact and importance.

The workshop will consist of a series of technical sessions and discussions, a planned tour of the Salinas Valley agricultural area, and an evening dinner session at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The meeting is being organized by the Planning Committee for the 12th International Sclerotinia Workshop, and the host organization is the University of California Cooperative Extension, Monterey County.

The meeting will take place in Monterey, California. The beautiful Monterey Peninsula area is a spectacular combination of parks and natural areas, recreational opportunities, cultural offerings, and small town American seaside communities that result in a unique and unrivaled setting. The 17-mile drive, historic Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf, numerous golf courses, the world’s most noted aquarium, the Big Sur and Los Padres National Forest area, and many galleries and shops provide a variety of things to visit and experience. The City of San Francisco is only a two-hour drive from the Monterey area.

Monterey County is home to the world’s most famous and intensive agricultural area, the Salinas Valley. The Salinas Valley contains extensive vegetable and strawberry industries, a high quality wine grape industry and accompanying wineries, and a significant horticulture industry. This coastal area also is home to a number of educational organizations such as California State University at Monterey Bay, Monterey Institute of International Studies, and nearby University of California at Santa Cruz.

A call for papers and posters, first notice for registration, and other registration materials will be sent via e-mail and/or mail early in 2004.

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the 12th International Sclerotinia Workshop!
